Emerald Card is a prepaid MasterCard card provided by H&R Block. The tax filing agency initially provided the card as a means for customers to top up their refunds and check their tax predictions. There are several ways for customers to constantly top up their cards.

Retailers are involved.
Emerald cards can be reloaded at participating 7-Eleven stores for $1.95, regardless of the deposit amount. Money can also be deposited into emerald cards at CVS, Dollar General, Office Depot, Walgreens’ and Walmart for up to $3.95. 7 Eleven and Walmart also offer cash transfers by check. This allows Emerald Card holders to receive cash from checks and reload their cards in a single location.
Western Union
Emerald cards can be reloaded at any of Western Union’s 44,000 locations. Cardholders must present a complete prepaid service form, cash to be deposited, transaction fees and cards to a Western Union agent.
Smartphone app
The free app tops up after the cardholder takes a picture of the front and back of the check. Customers can send payment checks, personal checks, Social Security payments and tax returns. The app also provides information about card balances, transaction history, cash rewards programs, top-up locations, and ATMs.
Send money directly
Emerald Card holders with employers offering direct deposits can be automatically loaded into their cards. There is no fee for the service.
Load MoneyPak card
If there is no other deposit option, a person can switch to MoneyPak and its more than 50,000 retailers. After the money has been deposited into it, the balance can be transferred at the MoneyPak website using the Emerald Card number and the unique code on the MoneyPak Card.
Tip
The deposit amount on the Emerald Card is covered by FDIC insurance.
